The pubs and clubs were so criminally entrenched that they could not hold a public inquiry due to fear of threats and harm to witnesses. They had to go as far as not disclosing the address where the inquiries were held.
Ironically, many of The Stars heirachy, who have since left, held positions of high credibility in society with several holding an Order of Australia . . . one would have thought such people were of high calibre and could be trusted.
Similarly Crown had secured a high ranking politician on its board . . . who was found corrupt in the Crown inquiry.
It is good to have cheerleaders but at the same time have some balance such as provided by cbrmaroon, who does raise many valid points, especially the detrimental impact gambing has on people's lives.
If The Star is to succeed it needs to be super transparent with the regulator and confer with the regulator before putting into place any action that may appear the slightest bit untoward.
