It would be an even greater thing if the two could reach an accord to be courteous and reasonable in their dealings with each other, as in the main they are in our country. I was watching for a second time the Menzies documentary which John Howard made a few years ago. And it was wonderful to see the open cordiality between Howard, Hawke, Keating and others like Clive James and Barry Humphries as they discussed the Menzies years. Politics in America seems to have been toxic for decades and, between educated people, there seems no need for it and how it infects he populace at large This didn’t start with Trump but he could make gestures in his second term which might go a long way towards healing.
