Arion, it may not cost any more to graduate a engineering student than an SAS trooper. I really don't know but I do know that the guys who survived Afghanistan didn't do so by luck, as my father did the mud in Flanders. He was behind the machine gun, not in front of it.
Would you tell the universities that they must embrace all-comers as a social responsibility?
If you want to run boot camps, do so without involving those who, possibly, have a serious task ahead. Some ex-military who, for various reasons, don't meet the tough standards needed may be willing to instil the discipline, but don't rob the defence budget. Find the money elsewhere.
