I have a slightly different take on it.

The BOD is desperate to make a big announcement to offset all of the flack they are copping both here and directly from SH's, they know this deal is very very close so they stick their neck out with that last update.

I hope for them and us that it comes this month BUT they can't release anything until P&G say so and they may not have the same internal deadlines, for whatever reason.
