Nope. The younger generation is no more selfish than their parents who had kids for their own self centred reasons. Human nature never change.
What has changed is the freedom the new generation can survive on their own, there are now government welfare, nursing homes, personal carers... that didn't exist thousands of of years ago.
No children in Western society put their parents above their spouse or their own children (unless from some traditional Asian families).
