Jack, there are a lot of crippled and disfigured out there that could use a bit of help.
Some of the sights I've seen really haunt me....not because of the horror, but the fact that just a few thousand dollars could make them normal.
One that made an impact was a girl in the town of Banjar, SW Java.
As I walked, I saw a girl ahead of me standing in a doorway looking out.
She looked quite pretty in silhouette, but then she heard my approach and turned towards me....her face was deformed on the right side, and I forced myself not to look away and greeted her. From the centre of her face, her teeth on the right side protruded out horizontally, pushing up her cheek and even distorting her right eye.
She seemed so glad someone had spoken to her. Hey, maybe $ 6,000 worth of dentistry would have made her beautiful instead of someone people cant look at.
I felt sorry for her...as I had felt sorry for many others.
