2000m DRILLING PROGRAMME TO COMMENCE AT ARRAWATTA COAL EXPLORATION PROJECT
A 2000m coal exploration drilling programme consisting of reverse circulation and diamond coring is to commence this week at the Company’s coal exploration licences (EL6433 & EL6434) at Arrawatta in northern NSW.
The licenses are located 30 to 50 kms south of the Ashford Coking Coal project (Renison 50%) and cover 65 sq kms. An additional exploration licence application covering 127 sq kms has been made surrounding these granted tenements.
Much of the area is covered with Tertiary basalts of variable thickness which overlay Carboniferous basement and sedimentary sequences of intermediate age. It is these sedimentary sequences which are considered prospective for coal, either where exposed or under the basalt.
Geological field work has highlighted the prospectivity of the licences. Coal occurrences have been noted over a wide area in water bore records, in outcrop and on the surface at the top of an old shaft. Geological reconnaissance work has located subcropping coal in close proximity to conglomerates which are considered elsewhere to be of Permian age, as is the case at the Ashford deposit.
