a discussion with an employee of TEYS CARGILL recently was very enlightening . He told me their people have determined that it will take at least 7 yrs for herd numbers to get back to pre drought levels. I place great trust in that statement as that company is not run by fools. I watched a weaner sale yesterday and just looked at the result of another one today at Glen Innes. The female calves are making the same or more than the steers. yet many of those females still end up in a feedlot or on fattening pasture and end up on the supermarket shelf so the issue will not resolve itself overnight.This brings me to an opportunity for AACO to mate and sell a large portion of the heifer drop . With that brand on them and with good marketing this would . in my opinion, yield a nice premium. I know graziers who are completely destocked and not having country that can be used for grain cropping , they have 2 choices either sell the farm or meet the market and pay what they are making. The demand is solid & a smart person starts at the end user and works back.No need to get them fat , just grow them and get them pregnant
