The target sands on P#1 were anticipated 2b around 220m thick as per their inhouse initial studies. This structure covers about 132.6 sqkm or 32765 acres. Porosity is the key factor, about 12-15% & gas saturation about 75-80%, which is in line with discoveries from this area. This one has the hallmark of being a company maker IMO. However post-logging & testing we shall know the complete potential.

Conoco have controlled this well diligently as they didn't want a repeat of Buffon-1 (by WPL). Why B#1, thats the closest well to P#1, hence the analogy.

B-1 had a thick Jurassic sandy section, but was heavily fractured & kept kicking regularly so much so that Woodside stuffed it up bigtime. They had to side-track initially in the top section of the well & when it came to the primary section, they bumped up the mud weight to keep the gas down & then lost 300 bbls (apprx 47k litres) thro' the fraccy formation. A good discovery killed by over-zealous Drilling engineers.

COP have actually run a liner till 4588m, so the well is secure of any dramas from the top section & open all the way to 5100m or whatever the TD will be.

Once they reach TD, they will log this key section to estimate the net payzone. My take is 80% Net to Gross sand ratio, so b happy with 180m+ thick pay sands in the Plover. The logging will also estimate the gas-water contact (GWC), the deeper this is, the better.

After TD, they will run a DST. By late next week u'd know the final status on P#1.

My take on the flow rates on this one is between 35-55 mmcfd. Why 55 mmcfd one might ask?? For safety reasons, the Sedco 703 has a blowout preventer at 10000 psi & offshore Australian wells on a semi-sub are flowed thro' atleast 1" choke for atleast 24-48 hours, so wont flow higher then the above rate, which is massive IMO.

Well done to old-timers, longterm believers & the newbies. No hard feelings here chaps/ladies/?? & no offence take, noe whatsoever. It's just another glorious day in the Oil Patch & a discovery of epic proporitons makes it all worthwhile!! No one wants to loose millions on drilling & come up with a duster, no one.

This one will (is?) b a big discovery. Certainly not a one-hit wonder & no relation to Stevie either IMO.

Spare a thought for the folks drilling on the sister semi-sub TOL 75 kms south. Yep mates at Woodside will b chewing their nails & hoping that there own well Brecknock-#4 comes good, they should b drilling in the reservoir section soon. After all Poseidon-1 is an extension of the Brecknock/ Torosa field :)

Just my thoughts. Enjoy, "its just another glorious day in the Oilpatch for some".

    cheers
