Some Key Points...

Senior government figures, including Mr Anwar, were reluctant to support Lynas when they were in opposition. However, the prime minister is now focused on attracting foreign investment, amid promises Malaysia will gain jobs in value-add industries such as high-end manufacturing. The Lynas plant is a draw card for global giants like Intel, that has promised to increase its presence in the South-East Asia country.

“Our government will take into account public sentiment, but it is also wise enough to understand the ripple effect of Lynas’ continued presence here. If it took the extreme step of terminating the license it would affect market sentiment in many sectors critical for Malaysia’s future,” said Collins Chong Yew Keat, a research fellow at the University of Malaya.

“The plant is critical not to just Lynas and Malaysia’s future but to the entire Western hemisphere,” Mr Chong said…

Of course the pundits are raising their voices but even activist Tan Bun Teet seems a bit demure rather than his being his typical obnoxious self.  Lynas and the truth will prevail…
