I'd imagine the US was well aware of incursions into it's and Canadian airspace for quite a while. Observing the observer is more valuable than vice versa, you just don't publicly acknowledge until your advantage is diminished and it's political value has evolved.
That aside, as long as LYC has any activity in Malaysia and the CCP influence is there, then it will be the same old broken record playing over and over again.
