Taqiyya is a practice in Shia Islam and Sunni Islam whereby adherents may conceal their faith when they are under threat, persecution, or compulsion.

For example, imagine we lived in Nazi Germany and hid some Jewish children in our attic or basement.

The SS Gestapo visit and ask us: "Do you know any Jews?"

We answer: "No"
