I really hope they can curb corruption in Malaysia, but it will be difficult as it is entrenched in the every day thinking of most Malaysians I have met... it's a way of life.
My wife is Malaysian and on a recent trip I was staggered by the level of acceptance by ordinary Malaysians. one example was when our car along with every other car at an intersection were stopped by the police for supposedly running a red light. we hadn't even gone through the intersection. but our driver calmly slipped 20 ringgit into his license before handing it to the police who then let him go with a warning.
The driver explained that that was the accepted way and he didn't even seem bothered.
Lynas problem is that our culture doesn't agree with the bribes that many may be yearning to give them an easy path.
