Formaldehyde and dyes can be very nasty. I recall buying some imported socks some years ago and even after being washed before first wearing it was like coming into contact with poison ivy. I had to rip them off and rush to a doctor for treatment. At around the same time it was reported in the news of children breaking out in rashes after wearing imported clothing from a prominent Australian chain store. Hopefully the authorities became more vigilant after that. It's not Free trade that causes this but lax import controls.

I have an uncomfortable feeling that Australia takes it's Quality Assurance responsibilities seriously and some other nations don't adhere to theirs....if they exist.
