It's stating the obvious to say FAR has ramped things up. Unusually, they kicked it off in the annual report, normally the most staid and non-newsworthy communication. Then came the unexpected VR-1 update. Finally dumping on COP signalled the gloves were well and truly off. Whether or not to pre-empt a CR - and frankly, none of us should care - FAR has clearly done the rounds of analysts in support of these announcements.

Already, this flurry of activity has precipitated a spike in trading volumes and a partial exit of shorters. For the first time in living memory - okay, a long time - buyers outnumber sellers. The capper remains in control, but one senses FAR intends to keep throwing punches until the shorts are overwhelmed. Success in the carbonates, or PE, would be a knockout blow, but a doubling of resources post SNE-6 would be just as telling, if six weeks hence.

Even those who doubt the veracity of Malcy's predictions surely can't doubt his assertion that North-west Africa is an emerging global hotspot. By now big oil must be crawling all over it.

This game has taken a dramatic turn. Is it simply pumping up a CR? I think not, although a CR might occur as part of it. From what I'm seeing and hearing, FAR believes its ducks are now sufficiently lined up to pull the trigger on a concerted strategic and communications strategy designed to deliver near-term shareholder value.

The big question is: Will it be the end game?

Cath said in the interview that FAR looked forward to announcing some "good new ideas and some good new projects in the coming months". That's plural! So no surprise that Malcy says more to come. FAR looking very good at present. Does any other company hold highly prospective acreage in 3 juristictions in the MSGB basin ... offshore Senegal, The Gambia and GB?? And more to come. I would expect that we should at the very least hear about what is going to happen in GB.
