alas, dogs' lives are shorter than ours .... but their love for us is boundless ... we need to repay that love by loving them and helping them to their end, and thereby honouring them and repaying them ... at 16, my largeish dog lost mobility and for four months I had to carry her in and out of the house, and then she lost the ability to eat so I fed her liquid food with a syringe ... she was compos mentis to the end and used to gaze at me as she lay beside me next to me desk or on my bed ... she was not in pain so I did not have her "put down" ... she died one night peacefully at 17 ... and I cleansed her lightly and anointed her with a little tea tree oil and wrapped her in a blue blanket and took her to be cremated ... she now resides in a timber box in my bedroom with a framed photo ... I see her and think of her every day and tell her that I love her!! And will do the same with her young replacement ...
