Sometimes I'm a bit slow...
I had been curious as to how CCU had initially connected up with its major shareholder Barito Indonesia, in terms of the shares that company bought in the two (well-priced) issues. I have done a lot of digging on Barito and its associates in an endeavour to see if it was likely to be a supportive long-term shareholder. I think the news is good on that front, and they must be very happy now.
But I had missed the elephant in the room. Mr Lefroy, the third director of CCU, is also a director of CHANDRA ASRI PETROCHEMICAL, which is a subsidiary of...Barito Indonesia.
Mr Lefroy has connections with Shell, so it all now makes sense.
I've put in an order to buy more CCU today.
