Saw trenching has rather limited depth. Wherever I've known them to use saw trenching for pit grade control, it was always eventually replaced by pit grade control drilling so several flitches could be sampled at once in advance, a flitch being the next "cut" to be mined in the pit. Usually 2.5-3 metres, years back.
