Very cynical .
No such thing as an honest mistake ??
What's in the ground is unseen and must be estimated and sometimes those estimates are wrong .
Of course managers do pay a price for failure in terms of reputation and loss of future earnings and I'm sure none of them actually plan to fail .
Not to say management are never too optimistic for their (or investors ) good but let's not over generalise and ascribe the sins of some to all .
Shares are the same as anything ...let the buyer beware .
