The closing market auction allows the EFTs to balance their portfolios against the days movements and their daily inflows/outflows when there is sufficient liquidity. If they were to do this during normal trading hours there could be wild swings in even the blue chips. Around 25% of the days trade happens in the closing auction. No way should it be closed down.
