Manchester attack: Bomber named as radicalised Muslim Salman Abedi
A 22-year-old radicalised Muslim, the son of two Libyan refugees who sought sanctuary from the Gaddafi regime by settling in Britain in 1994, has been identified as the suicide bomber who killed 22, including an eight-year-old girl and injuring more than 120 at the Manchester Arena on Monday night. Abedi was typical of a second generation of refugees who were not highly educated and had led a troubled life, Manchester Metropolitan Business School University professor Hamed El Said said.
Abedi, who lived about three kilometres from the arena, just south of Manchester, is believed to have travelled by tram just before the end of Ariana Grande’s pop concert.
Police were investigating reports that the Abedi family had returned to Libya with only the two eldest sons, including the bomber, remaining in Manchester.
