I think you are spot on. I usually don't buy into the discussions about market manipulation. If anything if a company is being shorted purely to manipulate the price its an opportunity for retail holders to buy in at a lower price. But on this occasion clearly the shorters have been in the loop with access to information retail holders didn't have. Like many others I saw the drop in price as an opportunity to add to my holdings at value. If I had known what the shorters knew I wouldn't have done so (and probably sold a few that I own).
