    A new incident occurred this April 26, in the morning, on the railway between the stations of Milole and Lastourville, at PK 476 + 958. The Société d'exploitation du Transgabonais (Setrag) made it known this Friday, immediately announcing the suspension of traffic.

    A rail transport company operating the **onese railway network, the Société d'exploitation du Transgabonais (Setrag) is once again faced with a derailment. The incident took place around 8:52 a.m. between the Milole and Lastourville stations at PK 476 + 958, the company announced this Friday, April 26. Faced with this new disastrous episode on the railway, all users are informed of the temporary suspension of traffic.

    The incident involves ore train No. 3473. However, the company indicates that " no injuries were reported, however nearly 300 meters of track were damaged and 26 empty wagons derailed ."

    The railway company announces that “ consequently, passenger trains No. 511, departing from Owendo station, and No. 532 departing from Franceville station on this Friday, April 26, 2024, are canceled ” . “Commercial measures have been put in place for impacted travelers, in particular, the reimbursement of train tickets and the postponement of trips ,” specifies Setrag.

    Apologizing for the inconvenience caused, the railway operator also indicates that “ technical teams are deployed to the scene of the incident, to restore traffic as quickly as possible ” and that “ the resumption of traffic will be subject to 'subsequent communication '.

    Commissioned in 1978, the Transgabonais railway, approximately 650 km long, has faced derailments in recent years. The instability of the soil in various places and the obsolescence of certain materials could explain these accidents. In recent years, the company has undertaken work to modernize the track with a view to replacing the wooden sleepers, which have a lifespan of 10 years. They are gradually being replaced by concrete sleepers with a lifespan of 50 years.
