With further consideration I've come to the conclusion that the auction dump wasn't shorters or ASX rebalancers but capitulation by a major holder ...
If they had tried to dump that number of shares in open trading the sp would have been in the low 60c range (at least) by the end of the transaction, so it appears to be a classical Pump and Dump.
