glad to share my comments re SMSuperFunds. Rocky, re your comments, its correct that you pay 15% tax on the way in and 15% on profits (if you realise them). Better than 30% company (or paye) tax, and 50% capital gain if you trade outside a super fund. (I believe I am correct but talk to a good accountant).

My accountant also set up a property trust with about 20 of us to invest in local commercial property which we know and understand. Returns 11% pa plus about 50% capital gain at present over 4 years.

As others have mentioned on this thread, I never liked leaving my hard earned with people I didnt know. I have made some bad investment decisions (and some very good ones) but at least I control my own destiny.

Fees for a fund worth about $1M are only about $2000 per year for me (I do all my own books, the accountant does the audit and lodgement). As long as you have a good accountant who doesnt charge the earth, SMSf's are worthwhile IMO with about $150K to start.
