The thing is, we are not privy to his coaching methods. Personally, he is very hard done by. But, player power dictates the game these days and Toovey didn't have support from players.

I totally agreed with the move to get rid of Glenn Stewart. He was over 30 at the time and injury prone. Tge same with Watmough. The mistake Toovey made was not being able to clean out the roster in one go. He either had to keep the Stewart boys together or offload both of them.

Having foran leave coz he had faith in another coach was a real bad sign.

I remember all the referee edicts on the off-season about the strict policy of players all pealing off the tackled player at one time. A week before the comp started sterlo asked willie mason about it. Mason chuckled and said, "we don't know much about it coz Tooves hasn't told us". I felt that comment spelt trouble.

Had Toovey gone to the board to do a massive overhaul and punt watmough, 2 Stewarts and matai, things may have been different.

The irony is that the Penns pulled the Dce deal last year and backed foran. It was strange watching the big smile on the face when they paid massive overs and more than what Dce had agreed upon last year as though they got a coup.

Barrett obviously has Bozo's support. But, is he entering a viper 'a nest with a few senior players getting on?
