Apart from taking decades to do this, the ever increasing CO2 created by human activity would negate the benefits from replenishing carbon in the soil.
Soil is a living ecosystem and the important microbes that help make soil fertile are influenced by aspects such as drought as seen in the northern hemisphere and rising temperatures around the globe.
