The problem with the models is that they back-tested them against historical observed temperatures, these temperatures were running hot because of the urban heat island effect.
The ESC figure that they use in the models is too high, sadly they can't use a realistic ESC figure because then the models would not show enough warming to keep the gravy train rolling.
