NOAA's monthly global climate report must surely rank as one of the world's major efforts for a cooperative science publication.
within a fortnight of the end of a month, NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information has published a comprehensive, detailed, really quite forensic summary of the month's weather and its extremes. And set it in historical context.
the aim of course is to generate discernible trends in the world's climate, by moderating the statistical noise coming from daily weather. The World Meteorological Organization sees climate in minimum 30 year blocks.
the latest report, for August 2024, includes detailed analysis of the month, the three months to the end of August and the first eight months of the calendar year.
the report is at an internet page marked ncei.noaa.gov.
below is an extract from its analysis of the northern hemisphere summer. A strong warming trend can be seen in the graphic.
