2 years after the State changed the industry dramatically the purilise count went through the roof which was the basis for the government to dramatically change the industry.
We had had low recruitment and this was the excuse they used.
If the industry really had recruitment issues we would not have seen a dramatic rise in 2 years because it would have taken at least 4 or more years just to stabilise.
The reasons why they intervened was because they wanted to decrease the numbers of operators and the processor’s wanted to smooth out the supply.
The science behind the recruiting numbers was twisted to suit the agenda. The drop in recruitment numbers coincided with the switch to smaller collection apparatus and the use of synthetic rope fibres from the original natural fibres that was used before.
