This Latrobe City Council doc shows why mantle's Bacchus Export Project will be first BC export from Vic IMO.
9/LVTC-Submission-16-Latrobe-City-Council-476KB.pdf
"infrastructure -These include improving freight capacity on the Gippsland rail line, rail
and road connectivity with Melbourne's port and airports, more efficient logistics and
freight handling, and better intra-regional public transport links that improve access
across major town centres and with key regional services such as Monash University at
Churchill. The region will benefit from proposed enhancements to the Dandenong rail
corridor however consideration will need to be given to the region’s connection with the
expanded Port Hastings. An effective intermodal hub will improve freight handling but
rail gauge differences have the potential to limit access to the national rail network.
The Gippsland Logistics Precinct project should be referenced in this
section. Council is currently seeking to attract private sector interest in
the establishment and operation of the Gippsland Logistics Precinct.
The GLP will provide rail freight access to the Port of Melbourne and
the Port of Geelong.
Council also notes that there are currently no Victorian Government
proposals to deliver or even to plan for rail connectivity to the Port of
Hastings from Gippsland." ends....
Some planning for rail has started since this report but it will take many many years and $billions before LV has decent rail capacity forcing Exergen/Tata to look to BM for a realistic alternative. Anyone who thinks otherwise is dreaming IMO.
cheers
