You may be right - Alkane have sold gold assests to RRL to focus on their rare earth business, but are maintaining an interest in those gold assets by taking up shares in RRL.
Mantle could do the same with a focussed gold acquirer, like Ramelius (RMS)
Mantle could sell off their gold assets for cash, or take up shares in the gold producer, or a combination of both.
Some of Mantle's gold assets may be more attractive for one or other scenario. So Mantle could maintain a share-based interest in its more valueable gold assets and simply sell of its less valuable ones for cash.
