    re: marathon sellers.....lj lj,
To look at the Buyers (Bid) and Sellers (Offer) screen, you'll see the volumes for both. In simple terms, comparing the bid and offer volumes, a higher bid volume would indicate higher demand inturn lifting the share price. So to make a share look more attractive to unsuspecting buyers, a large seller could place a large buy order way below current market value so there is no chance it will get filled. For example,
currently the buy depth has 2,831,703 shares. The sell depth has 1,800,649 shares. 2,831,703/1,800,649 gives a ratio of 1.57:1 or, more buyers than sellers. When you "pull" that 875000 share Phantom Bid (= 31% of the buyers volume) from the buy side, that gives 1,956,703/1,800,649 giving a ratio of just 1.08:1 which is, for all intent and purpose, an even buy/sell ratio. Meanwhile, as the buyers line up at the current market value, the seller can drip feed their order (at 32c???) until they've closed their position, then they pull the Phantom Bid restoring a more realistic buy/sell ratio.
But no one would ever manipulate on the ASX .....would they???? This is just my opinion so make sure you READ THE RED TEXT BELOW
