If they let the free market go now, trade of everything would come to a standstill, literally ... the bloodletting has to be slowed or else, would hate to think. Probably like Iceland.
There's boatloads of grain standing idle in ports in the US as lines of credit are secured from end users ... need I say more. Credit lubricates the global economic engine.
