I have commissioned the natural gas to diesel plant of the largest type in Qatar - 35000 BPD of diesel
SASOL has justified the investment with a crude price of 32 $ per barrel.
When I left Qatar, the plants were stabilised at 95 % rate. With oil prices soaring, ORYX GTL (a joint venture between SASOL of South Africa and Qatar petroleum), they are making a huge fortune. SASOL technology is less capital intensive than Shell which is also coming up in Qatar at double the capital cost.
For Australia, this is the best route and in fact WPL should think of this than only going in one route - that is LNG
