    Victorian coal-fired power stations burn brown (not black) coal from the Latrobe Valley ('lignite') so while this doesn't directly affect WHC, it will (all other things being equal) put more pressure on NSW and Queensland's few remaining thermal (black) coal burning power stations to extensively supply the national electricity grid over the Victorian winter (which take it from me, as last year showed, can in Australian terms be rather chilly.

    Hence demand locally for thermal coal will rise a bit (not that lack of demand is a problem in 2022 worldwide!):

    "Victoria faces the loss of coal power generation over the critical winter peak demand period after AGL Energy revealed an electrical fault at its Loy Yang A plant had knocked a unit out of service.

    The state’s largest power station, which provides 30 per cent of Victoria’s power needs, could be without one of its four generation units at the Latrobe Valley plant until August 1.

    That would mean the power station faces the critical winter peak season of power demand without a quarter or 550 megawatts of its 2210MW capacity..."
