I think it is now clearer that people sold what was liquid, gold and gold stocks, to be come solvent and cover margin calls.
Now that this has played out, the negative beta of gold and gold stocks is working again.
In a no interest rate world, a tangible worthless metal is better than intangible paper promise from a sovereign that is printing an unlimited supply of promises.
Margin calls are covered. Now its game time
