Of course KDR will say that, if they admit any further discussions were going on past April they are almost certainly admitting defeat and going back on what they have started saying, more and more looks like KDR are trying to weasel their way out of a deal they made, the big fish thinking they can get away with it.

What do people expect a defendant (KDR) to say to the public?

Regardless if there is anything to this. If there isn't they (KDR) are telling the truth, if there is well then they have to keep denying otherwise they openly admit wrong doing and lose and their share price will plummet.
