I suppose the only way Alexium could be side-stepped as the FR provider is if there were inherently FR resistant fabrics being assessed. My understanding from what I have read is that most 'fabrics' with inherent FR properties are heavy, stiff and are not good to wear as a daily fabric, but realsitically can only be used in specialty situations (e.g. firefighters). The best of these fabrics I believe have to be sourced from outside America, which contravenes the Berry Amendment.

So, while it is possible that non-Alexium solutions are being looked at, I believe it is very unlikely. There were hints that senior DoD people were talking about potentially making ALL military uniforms FR resistant providing better safety for all personnel. This would require the solution be wearable daily (e.g. 50/50 NyCo), not change the quality of the fabric (tick) and be able to withstand multiple washings (tick - in fact, Alexium's solution apparently IMPROVED after more than 50 washings).

    The possibilities are very exciting.
