    You're right that the media would have laid into Heydon and Libs if he'd stood down. They would have dined out on it for a few weeks. But this way the left-leaning cartoonists, comedians and journos have a target to go on attacking right to the bitter end.

    Don't get me wrong - I don't think Heydon did the wrong thing. His argument to dismiss the applications was sound. I'm just taking the political perspective.

    Sure, a win is a win. I just think it's going to be a while before we see who won. Some Labor strategists would have been praying he didn't resign.
