I'm not a fan of the government picking winners on the pro nuclear side either. If I was in charge the role of the government would just to enforce property rights and the financial decisions would be up to the market. No subsidies for nuclear, unsafe reactor designs and unsafe locations restricted of course but other than that it should be investors deciding if its actually worth doing not politicians. Every time I hear the argument that its too expensive I immediately think "well its safe to unban then since no one will do it if its too expensive"
If I was to bet on the future of it all I would bet on SMRs as a category just because of what standardization does to costs and reliability and how that would get around a lot of the fear and regulatory costs. I'm not holding my breath for Australia to get onboard though. This is not a country for doing advanced technology first. If we are good at developing advanced tech its for the purpose of selling the innovation to other countries for net to nothing and buying it back as products. /rant
