I USED to work for mining companies, and only medium-sized ones, but not any more.

Well from my experience we used to do a mining campaign, costing millions, and then park the ore. We would then processed the ore according to our production schedule over a period of time, and then do another mining campaign when more ore was needed. So the operation was not a continuous one from mining to processing.

FMG were probably working through a planned mining schedule, and now have to alter that schedule, to combat the falling IO price.
