Australian gold producer, Newcrest Mining, gained
2.3 percent to A$14.27, despite the price of bullion in New York
ending at a fresh three-month low on Monday. This rise comes on
the speculation that the company could become a takeover target
by foreign miners seeking to boost gold ouput.
