Look up Windscale / Sellafield. The Wikipedia entry is sufficient. Allowed releases into the Irish sea. Plus the spillage incidents. Lucas Heights is an advanced toy in comparison to power generating reactors. Wouldn't swim in the Woronora River. And forget thorium, needs plutonium to start it off, not what you want dispersed around the world.
