“Casual staff at the University of Queensland have lost 17 weeks of work while students stranded in China have received letters warning them they will fail if they don’t pay semester fees on time, a teacher at the university has said.
Approximately 40 casual teaching staff at the UniversityOf Queensland’s Institute of Continuing and TESOL Education (ICTE) have been affected as the Australian government’s ban on travellers from mainland China causes an unprecedented drop in student numbers.”
The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention has calculated a case fatality rate of about 2% for the novel coronavirus -- meaning about 2% of those known to be infected have died. That's higher than influenza, which is about 0.1%.
