Inflation jumps on petrol

AUSTRALIA'S consumer price index rose 0.9 per cent in the September quarter, for an annual rate of 3.0 per cent, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said today.
In the June quarter, the CPI rose 0.6 per cent.
Contributing most to the overall increase in the third quarter was the cost of petrol, which jumped 11.6 per cent.
