There was a Goldman Sachs report about 4 weeks ago that expected the significant data Afterpay was gathering would give them the potential to develop a model for larger value lending and more directly take on credit card products. (as well as introduce a loyalty program for its users that rewards only responsible spending)

Goldman basically suggested that APT could be a source of future new innovation in financial services that continue to meet the needs of Australian consumers in a way incumbent institution are not doing.

So I'm not surprised people are shifting from banks, and VISA and Mastercard, to Afterpay. APT has much more trust and appeal to the end consumer.

They also said that if consumers use the product appropriately, it costs them nothing. If a consumer is not using the product appropriately and misses an instalment payment, their account is immediately shut off. This should allay concerns re: ASIC.
