Dr Ogru said Phospagenics was already in talks with big players in the personal care and cosmetics sector, and the cellulite cream was expected to be available globally within the next 18 months.

She said cosmetics were a fast generator of revenue, and the product would boost the company's financial position and help in the development of other compounds.

"We're actively out there trying to make money out of our technology," Dr Ogru said. "We're aiming to be cashflow positive in a year-and-a-half."
