pattyp,
I work in the bauxite / alumina industry and I've done my research, so I know what I'm talking about.
I suggest everyone does their own research; however, here is what I have found...
China gets all the high grade bauxite it needs from VietNam right under the world's nose and not many people know about this. They do it on the quiet, "off market" you could call it, so its not registered and published.

How ask yourself this... "Why is Alcoa investing in two alumina refineries in VietNam?"
Answer... "Because there is vast amounts of high quality alumina."
I will repeat, bauxite is available in abundance.
China wanting what BAU has to offer is pure speculation. You must admit that yourself.
RIO, BHP and ALCOA have all of the high quality bauxite they need. More than enough.
JUST BE CAREFUL. Don't get caught up in the next big bubble.
BAU tourists taking happy snaps infront of Chinese alumina refineries is not a reason for the price to jump.
