THE NSW Government will spend $75 million in next week's Budget to lure Defence contracts to the state and build a high-tech Defence hub in north-west Sydney.

The funding package includes a $50 million parcel of Government land at Macquarie Park, North Ryde, to be developed into a high-tech Defence business site.

The remaining $25 million will go toward helping NSW companies attract lucrative Defence contracts.

NSW Premier Kristina Keneally today said the funding would create 1500 new jobs.

"NSW is the smart economy of Australia and defence jobs are part of our future development," she said.

"It will secure high-technology jobs in the state, bring new investment into NSW and help develop a strong future for our local defence industry."

The package is part of a NSW Government push to attract 30 per cent of national Defence spending over the next 10 years.
